The Assorting Of Chinese Character Variants In The Light Of General Standard Chinese Characters Table

Assorting Chinese character variants is important for standardizing Chinese characters. Since 1955, in which year the First Batch of Tabulated Chinese Character Variants was published, our government has never stopped doing it. On October 19th, 2013, the State Council published the General Standard Chinese Characters Table on its website, which is aimed to carry out the Law of the National Commonly-Used Language and Script and meet the needs of informatization and contemporary language life. Chinese character variants in the General Standard Chinese Characters Table are the latest achievements of character variants assorting in our country. Research on the character variants assorting of this table is far from enough since it was published officially. So, this subject is aimed to summarize the character variants assorting of this table by investigating the relation between standardized Chinese characters and their variant forms and the frequency of the Chinese characters when they are used both in modern Chinese and ancient Chinese. Maybe this can provide a reference to assort and research Chinese character variants and standardize Chinese characters in future.This thesis consists of four parts:The first part:Introduction. Defining Chinese character variants clearly by assorting and comparing different views on it. Reviewing the assorting and research of Chinese character variants since the foundation of our country. Introducing the contents, significance and methods of this subject.The second part:Investigation and analysis of the relation between standardized Chinese characters and their variant forms in General Standard Chinese Characters Table. Firstly, investigating the relation between standardized Chinese characters and their variant forms in General Standard Chinese Characters Table by Modern Chinese Dictionary and Great Chinese Dictionary. Summarizing and analyzing different types of variant forms in this table through examples. In this process, methods of quantitative analysis and objective description will be used. Then, figuring out the number and proportion of each type by statistical inductive method. Finally, summarizing the achievements and defects of Chinese characters variants sorting in this table.The third part:Investigation and analysis of the frequency of the standardized Chinese characters and their variant forms in General Standard Chinese Characters Table. Firstly, investigating and analyzing the frequency of the Chinese character variants and their standardized forms in corpora(including modern Chinese corpus and ancient Chinese corpus) produced by State Language Commission of China and Center for Chinese Linguistics PKU. In this process,methods of quantitative analysis will be used. Then, analyzing the data by statistical inductive method and discussing the achievements and defects of Chinese characters variants sorting in this table through data and examples.The forth part:Conclusion. On the basis of the second and the third parts, summarizing the Chinese characters variants sorting of General Standard Chinese Characters Table from the perspective of the relation between standardized Chinese characters and their variant forms, character frequency and characters in the table,which may be helpful to assort and research Chinese character variants and standardize Chinese characters in future.Then pointing out the defects of this thesis.
