Cochlear implants are now extensively applied worldwide for the assistance to people who lost hearing power. Many researches have been done in this field, however, there are few translated versions of introduction to the imported cochlear implants in China. A precise translated version of imported cochlear implants will facilitate acquaintance for people with hearing loss and provide more options for them.One of the three appended materials is the general introduction to the cochlear implant by the Elizabeth Foundation in Australia, and the other two are the introductions of the MAESTRO CI System and the SYNCHRONY CI System, which are from MED-EL Electronics in Austria, one of the most famous company in the world.This is a report on the Chinese translation of the introduction to imported cochlear implants in light of the "plain prose" translation method in translating informative text which is put forward by Katharina Reiss. The source text mainly features nominalization, repetition of verbs at lexical level; passive sentences and long sentences with large amount of information at syntactic level, which happen to be the difficulties of the translation practice. This report analyzes and translates the words and sentences by some translation strategies, such as conversion, repetition of words, syntactic linearity, division, order readjustment and conversion of sentence form to acquire a plain and precise Chinese version in the hope of providing reference for future studies. |
