In the 1940s, the young writer Wang Zengqi was emerging in the literary circles. He leaves us a rare collection of experimental novels with his personal characteristic way of writing. In these novels, not only can we see the influence of Chinese literature, but also we can see the trace of western modernist literature. This thesis treats Wang Zengqi’s short novel in 1940s as the mainly research object, and discuss the artistic exploration of his creation in the early phase. The main part of this thesis is divided into three chapters. The first chapter explores the prosaic tendency of Wang Zengqi’novel produced in 1940s. Wang had an open concept on novel and treat the short fiction as a kind of thinking way, a kind of emotional form. The structure of his novel is very "causal". At the same time,he would like to mix narrative and lyric together. The second chapter analyzes the stream of consciousness technique in wang’short story created in the 1940s. In order to express the life and people’heart more real, he tried his best to show the characters’ consciousness flow in his new novel s which toward modernity. Meanwhile, he showed the hearts of the characters in his Vernacular novels which toward tradition. Based on the above, the use of stream of consciousness technique cannot be avoided. The techniques are inner monologue, free association and time montage. The third chapter makes analysis on the language of Wang Zengqi’short novel written in the 1940s."Close to the person" is the striking feature of his creation. Therefore, his language is a combination of poetic language and daily language. Moreover, Wang Zengqi paied lots of attention to the use of language to make it more accurate and suggestive.
