Research On The Wan Xilu Essays Of Zhou Zhenliang

Zhou Zhenliang is a famous scholar of Wen Xuan and bibliograph during the period of the Republic of China. With rich works, he was both talented and learned. The Wanxilu Essays is a book of notes written at his old age. In the book the author cited various references and the book is rich in content, which includes prose and poetry works and reviews of former dynasties, places of interest, poeple’s anecdotes, researchs on geography and meibutsu and so on. Wanxilu Essays has high academic value, and the prose works in the book provide rich resources for the researching on literature of Qing dynasty.The record of places of interest and anecdotes add to the lack of local chronicles. However, the book has not drawn enough attention of the academia up to now, and there are few related research results.This paper takes the Wanxilu Essays of Zhou Zhenliang as the main research object, researching Zhou Zhenliang’s life, writings and friends, analyzing the book’s completion time, main content and data sources, and introduce its literature value from three aspects of literature work preservation, township literature collection, bibliographic information provision. This paper is mainly divided into three chapters:The first chapter researches Zhenliang’s life, writings and friends. Firstly introduces Zhou’s family background and main life experiences. Secondly, investigates the collection of Zhou Zhenliang’s works, and focus on Zhou Zhenliang’s related bibliography and Wen Xuan works. Finally, introduces Zhou Zhenliang’s close teachers, colleagues and friends, studying their effects to Zhou Zhenliang’s works.The second chapter analyzes the completion time, main content and data sources of Wanxilu Essays. As has not been published, the book’s compilation situation is not clear yet, so this chapter firstly tries to vertify that Zhou Zhenliang wrote the book during the time of 1924-1932. Secondly, classifies the book’s content integration, focusing on four apects of proses, anecdotes, textual researching argues, medicine prescriptions. Finally, analyzes data sources of the book, and points out that the book’s reference materials were mainly adopted from corpuses, novels of notes, annals of texts, and the author’s experiences and works.The third chapter discusses the literature value of the Wanxilu Essays. The book cites a lot and is rich in content with the plentiful literature materials it preserved. Basing on related content of preservation, evaluation of literary works, anecdotes and cultural relics and historical sites, this chapter discusses the book’s literature value and academic significance of iterature work preservation, township literature collection, bibliographic information provision.
