With the continuous development of education science, the problems about Generative Resources in the process of teaching have attracted a lot of attention of the teachers and the researchers. Generative resources, involving all kinds of information and factors initiated by course design, interaction, peer review and evaluation, is generated in class and in return promotes the teaching and learning. The study, by using the methods of literature, observation, cases analysis and controlled experiment, is to apply generative resources to the teaching of English writing by an empirical research.The paper first states the definition of generative resources and writing theories, and explain the basic process of the generative resources’origination, capture and response. It also mentions the classification and response strategies. All these lay the theoretical basis of the empirical study. Then, by describing the teaching in secondary college English writing, the paper finds the possibility of the application of generative resources to English writing instruction. As for the research, the subjects of study are the students from Wuhan University Luojia College, all sophomore and English majors. There are two parallel classes, a total of 52 students. The experiment tools are from Test for English Majors Band 4-the topics and the standard. The paper expounds in detail the process of experiment, illustrate the mark sheet by classifying the errors of students’ writing, and analyze the data, which proves that generative resources used in writing instruction can improve students’ writing skills, including the theme, arguments, organization, logic, language, punctuation, etc., and can also further optimize the teaching. This study has its innovations as to bring generative resources in the teaching of English writing, and make it function. But it also has its limitations. The study is limited by time and scope, which need to further in the future. What’s more, the paper also proposes that generative resources can be applied to the elementary and middle schools English teaching, also the non-English majors and vocational schools.
