Tobacco is one of the pillar industries in Yunnan and the tobacco tax is very important to the government. Under such a background, the film the tobacco, try to understand the life of tobacco farmers who are at the bottom of tobacco industry chain in order to show their living conditions and seek the contradictions and difficulties.The tobacco drawn from the JiuXiang Yiliang——the second largest tobacco growing district in Kunming. I took nine months (from April 2015 to January 2016) to make and cut this film. Through survey and communication with local tobacco company in preparation stage, I selected Luo Yungui as the shooting object from five families and got his approval. Meanwhile, I lived and worked together with Luo Yungui and try to integrate into the local to become "a local people".The work to make this movie began from July 2014. This movie want to reflect the toil of planting tobacco by shooting Luo Yungui daily life. At the same time, I also paid attention to the "human relationships". The film shows the "relationship" between Luo Yungui and the village secretary and between Luo Yungui and the tobacco company. Becomes of the "relationships", Luo Yungui can make more money by planting tobacco and other things do more smoothly in Jiuxiang. Other villagers, because of the lack of the "relationship", can’t keep the basic contract of planting tobacco, which reduce their income. To make up for the deficiency caused by "relationship", they can only sell tobacco to illegal tobacconists to maintain their livelihood.Finally, I want to achieve the purposes of sharing the things what I see by coherent cutting and interpretative subtitles. Meanwhile, I try to show the true content by objective means and avoid comment or judgment.
