Early Tang Dynasty is the critical period in Chinese literary history, as it is a transitory period from the poem of Northern and Southern Dynasties to that of Tang Dynasty. As the head of “Four Great Poets of Early Tang Dynasty”, Wang Bo’s literary thoughts and works inherit Six Dynasties’ literature and lead the poetic style of a dynasty, which play a critical role in the literary history. His thoughts are mainly reflected in several proses, including To the Assistant Pei of Board of Personnel, Ten Poems about Pingtai Idea, Preface of Wang Bo’s Collected Works, Preface of Missing Friends in Shanting,etc..He raises poetic education, theory of expressing emotion, literary ideal as the core of his literary ideals, which enlarge the poem’s range, strongly hit the corruptible style of “Longshuo Poem”, and point out the direction for Tang poem’s development.The paper focuses on three parts that are poetic education, theory of expressing emotion and literary ideal, takes Wang Bo’s literary thoughts as the research object and Jiang Qingling’s Notes of Wang Bo’s Collected Works(Qing Dynasty) as the reference, and combines the era background, personal life and literary creations to dig the value of Wang Bo’s literary thoughts. The paper includes introduction, text and conclusion.The introduction mainly reviews the research status of Wang Bo’s literary thoughts to find the weak spot on this study, and then raise the significance of the research topic.The first chapter studies the poetic education. The paper starts from the education function and the view of expressing ambition to analyze the intension of Wang Bo’s idea of poetic education. Then analyze the reasons based on the development of the poetic education. Then the paper forms objective evaluation on Wang Bo’s idea of poetic education from two parts that are positive effects and limits. The second chapter explores the theory of expressing emotion under the influence of life experience and the previous literature. Wang Bo tries to recover the tradition of “poem expresses one’s ambition”, calls for the theory of “recalling with emotion at seeing something” to express one’s dissatisfaction. The third chapter focuses on the literary ideal with “strength of character” as the center. The paper analyzes the intension of Wang Bo’s literary ideal from three parts that are the strong willandspirit, powerful emotion and equal attention to the form and contents.The conclusion summarizes the paper’s content and gives general evaluation for Wang Bo’s literary thoughts.
