A Report On The Translation Of Chapter One In Bacteria In Agrobiology: Crop Ecosystem

Biological technologies and agricultural technologies have developed fast nowadays, which has promoted the agricultural production. The translation material of this report is the first chapter of Bacteria in Agrobiology: Crop Ecosystem. This book mainly describes the beneficial role of plant growth promoting rhizobacteria especially the role in rhizosphere ecosystem. Until now, there is no Chinese version of this book. Therefore, translation and related analysis of this book will be necessary, significant and original. Translating this book can not only provide the advanced technologies but also promote the development of agriculture and growth of crop yield. This translation practice can also provide a TB for the translation of the rest chapters of the book. In the process of translating, the translator has met a lot of problems, such as the translation of terminologies, sentences in passive voice and sentences with attributive clause. In this report, the translator has analyzed the process of problems solving.In the process of translating, the translator has chosen SDL TRADOS 2014 as the translation tool. TRADOS is a popular computer aided translation tool and its core technologies are term base(TB) and translation memory(TM). These technologies can not only solve the problem of lack of consistency in the translation of the terminologies and personal names but also improve the translation efficiency by translating the similar sentences automatically. However, TRADOS is just a translation tool that can’t replace the translator. This translation task still needs manual work. Therefore, in this report, the translation methods of translating terminologies, sentences in passive voice and sentences with attributive clause are discussed.The translator has analyzed the whole process of translating. The translator finds out the beneficial role of TRADOS in translating terminologies, sentences in passive voice and sentences with attributive clause as well as its limitations. Besides, since the translation material is just the first chapter which has fewer similar sentences, TRADOS helps relatively less in the translation of sentences. However, it may help a lot in translating the rest of the book because there will be more similar sentences in the rest of the book. By translating the first chapter, the translator can establish a TB which will help a lot in the translation of the rest chapters in this book. This report will help translators improve the translation efficiency and ability.
