John Keats who died in his earlier years is a British romantic poet in the early 19 th century. He just like a "bright star" in the romantic period and left a lot of excellent poems. Although his poems were not famous during his lifetime, but time gave him a fair evaluation. Keats’ s five long narrative poems Endymion, Lamia, Hyperion,Isabella and The Eve of St Agnesare not only the high-quality goods in his poetry,but also the treasure of world literature.All the poems without Hyperion accomplished during 1817-1819,that is so brilliant in literature history.Therefore, the key point to learn about Keats is to analyze his long poetry.Based on the predecessors’ research results and contacting with Keats’ s life,this paper trying to explore the ideological characteristics of his long poems andattempt to reveal the eternal charming and literary value of Keats’ s poetry.In the introduction,the article briefly describe some achievements of John Keats in the two centuries at home and abroad,and point out that the domestic research of Keatsmainly focus on the ode and lyricsand the long poems have been ignored for a long time.The first chapter analyzes the ancient Greece complex of John Keats and mainly introduce the rewriting about the ancient Greek myth story plot and character in Endymion,Lamia,and Hyperionwhich expressthe poet of addiction in Greek mythology. The second chapter analyses the gothic factor in Isabella and The Eve of St Agnes. The horrible atmosphere and cruel reality in the poems are contrast with beautiful love and thus make the poetry form its unique style. The third chapter mainly discusses the common theme of the five long poems:the pursuit of love and beauty, and analyzes the evolution at different stages.The fourth chapter analyzes the significanceof John Keats’ s narrative poems.Compared with Byron and Shelley’s poems, Keats’ s long narrative poetry present a kind of unique literary value.
