Strange Tales of Liaozhai and Yuewei Cottage Notes are outstanding novels in the Qing dynasty. The comparison of transmission and acceptance is still blank with the comprehensive investigation of the existing research on the two works. The paper primarily takes Strange Tales of Liaozhai and Yuewei Cottage Notes as research object and its aim is similarities and differences of contrasting transmission and acceptance process on two works and analysis of reason behind.In this paper, the main content is divided into four parts:transmission expectation, transmission motivation, transmission mode and general situation, social evaluation and acceptance. The first part is the transmission expectation. It can be seen that both Pu Songling and Ji Yun have a certain transmission expectation by the comparison of novel concept on authors; it can be analyzed that the transmission expectation of Ji Yun is greater than Pu Songling’s from the comparison of creation motives on authors. The second part mainly discusses transmission motivation on works. The first is literary value. Although the literary value embodiment of Strange Tales of Liaozhai and Yuewei Cottage Notes has their emphasis respectively, both them promote transmission on works in the evaluation system of Qing dynasty. The second is commercial value. Compared with Strange Tales of Liaozhai, the Ji Yun’s status extremely improves commercial value of Yuewei Cottage Notes. The last is political factors. The theme on advising kindness and punishing evil embodied in Strange Tales of Liaozhai and Yuewei Cottage Notes accords with the taste of ruling class in the Qing dynasty and it has a certain effect for the transmission on two works. The third part mainly analyzes transmission mode of works and general situation. The first is borrowing and making private copies. Strange Tales of Liaozhai is mainly be made private copies between relatives and friends and Yuewei Cottage Notes is mainly be scribed and transcribed in the process of creation; Strange Tales of Liaozhai has a more transcript and more long transmission time after works formed. However, Yuewei Cottage Notes is privately inscribed by booksellers during creation and therefore transcript is less. The second is inscription and publication. The inscription time in this paper is divided into the Qing dynasty, the Republic of China and after the founding of the nation and the inscription situation of every period is discussed respectively. According to the comparison of numbers, acceptance situation of works in the different period is analyzed. The last is the adaptation of film and television drama. The adaptive number of Strange Tales of Liaozhai is more than Yuewei Cottage Notes’s whether traditional opera or film and television works of new period. The final part in this paper mainly discusses social evaluation and acceptance situation on works. The first is the comment text. It can be seen that Strange Tales of Liaozhai is more favored than Yuewei Cottage Notes by the comparison of comment numbers, coverage and comment quality on two works in this paper. The second is works evaluation and specific embodiment in preface and postscript and writing. The evaluation of preface and postscript is mainly based on praise and the evaluation of writing varies with the change of the times. Finally, Strange Tales of Liaozhai is be more favored by scholars of later ages similarly in comparison of imitations.
