1917-1927 is the first ten years of the development of the new literature in May 4th. A group of new women writers began to step on the stage. Chen Hengzhe, Bing Xin, Lu Yin, Feng Yuanjun, Su Xuelin, Bai Wei, Ling Shuhua, Chen Xuezhao, Shi Pingmei, Lu Jingqing, Ding Ling all are the leader. They are the first batch of female writers who have modern consciousness. During the period of the May 4th movement, they stepped onto historical stage, began to issue the voice of women’s self and attracted the attention of the world. They created the first batch of new era female image in the novel, and became the initial construction person of the image of modern Chinese women.The introduction part introduces the background and the origin of this study.The first chapter expounds the female images in the works of the female writers have been interpreted from the perspective of social history, aesthetic culture and so on. Traditional Chinese female image has been a blind spot in the history, to the period of the May 4th movement, compared to the male writers as a spectator, female writer’s writing had more experience.The second chapter expounds the female writers’self construction of modern Chinese female images. Main points into two categories:a class is traditional Chinese woman in the turn of the old and new cultures, subdivision for the traditional lady, the old lady and the underlying women; another kind is the new women growing up in the zeitgeist, based on the relationship between women and family, men and society, can be divide for talented female student, girl who is in conflict between feeling and wisdom, career women. Female writers in the period of the May 4th in female sex position, described the living conditions of women in the old and new age, found that the plight of women’s existence is not only related to the times, but also the inherent conflict, which exists in the feminine gender role and female social status.The third chapter mainly analyzes the new female image’s cultural characteristics in the text of May 4th female writers. After two thousand years of chaos, new women began their growth process from substances, objects, and non subject to the main body. The second is the May 4th female writers repeatedly saied by their own experiences, they are eager to draw support from virtual characters to pour out the secrets of the heart.This is just as some scholars said, it saved the truth of female. Finally, the suffering of era left sad emblems in women, time has given May 4th female writers sad sigh of sorrow, cynical, sentimental melancholy temperament.In the fourth chapter, by comparing to reveal the influence of the female images, in the May 4th female writers’novel. To a certain degree, Xiao Hong of the 1930s, Zhang Ailing of 1940s, Zhang Jie in the 1980s and Lin Bai in the 1990s,and other female writers affected by the first timers. Through the longitudinal comparison of female image of later representative female writers and the May 4th female writers, we can explore the skeleton of Inheritance and evolution, which is about modern Chinese female image.The conclusion part summarizes the May 4th female writers’writing about constracting the new female images is not only the text representation of women’s image at that time, but also the compose of first generation of female image in the future. They set up the transition bridge between the traditional women and the new women in the 20th century literature.
