A Translation Report On The Biography Warrior (Excerpts)

With the readers’choice of literary genre gradually increasing, autobiography is becoming more and more popular, and biography stands out from the rest and turns into one of the hottest readings in literature. A growing number of writers both home and abroad are pushing celebrities and giants into the public’s field of view, which described in a veritable and objective format. Thereupon, studies on translation of this genre are seen increasingly.This thesis is a translation report of Warrior, which was written by Israel Former Minister Ariel Sharon. The source text is on the background of Five Middle-East Wars and shows the whole life of Sharon. Translator chooses Chapter Four, Five and Six to translate, and these chapters mainly describe Sharon during The War of Independence and the interim time. Translator provides the first Chinese version, which will be convenient for Chinese to know much about Sharon and The War of Independence.After the translation practice, the translator has drawn the conclusions as follows. First, as a biography, the protagonist is a real person in history or our life, that means during the translation, the translator must describe the content in a veritable and objective way, cannot add fiction into it. Second, the source text is based on the background of Five Middle-East Wars, the Chapter Four, Five and Six mainly describe war-related scenes, which require the translator not only to convey the true information, but also show the tense atmosphere incisively and vividly. This thesis, from the perspective of vocabulary, sentence pattern and cultural default, analyzes the problems in the translation progress of excerpts and summarizes the appropriate strategies for biography translation. These strategies can be a help for the translator in the next translation practice, and provide some references for other translators of biography.
