Identification Of Plant Images In The Flower-and-bird Paintings Of The Song Dynasty

There is a close relation between the plant and human. Plant is an object,which be enjoyed and created by painters in all times. There are wide range of different items and diverse gestures plants image in the Song dynasty flower-and-bird paintings. This thesis focused on the botany, combined with literature review and the existing authentic paintings, using iconography method for identification and theme identification. This thesis refer to the appearance and gesture of plant paintings,interpret from the two aspects of botany and social humanities respectively as well, so as to understand the social cultural implications of plant image in Song dynasty flower-and-bird paintings.According to this method, through research the Song Painting Collection, Song Dynasty Flower and Bird Painting Collection and other pictures, referring to flower and bird painting painter mark in Xuanhe Huapu, while according to plant taxonomy Hutchinson system, there are 71 species of plants are often draw in Song paintings.Moreover, this thesis listed Song Painting Collection flower-and-bird painting’s plant classification statistics table and Xuanhe Huapu flower-and-bird painting’s plant statistics table. Based on analysis Song dynasty flower-and- bird painting and statistics literature, this thesis put forward that the Song dynasty flower-and-bird painter prefer to draw plant, so as the the Song dynasty flower-and-bird painter painted frequency statistics table can be listed. As can be seen, Song painter has been showed a great concern about bamboo, the plum flower, peony, lotus,like the theme of plant.There are many reasons for the choice of plant image and performance frequency.This article analyzed from the plant geographic distribution and the painter’s life trajectory, the development of plant image, art academies system of Song dynasty,festive customs and the influence of plant in the traditional image, in order to restore song dynasty flower-and-bird painter’s life scene, to see their “truth” “chi” “heart”“humanity” under the influence of Song dynasty ideological trend. They establish the distance of identity of object and self with plants, the concept of sketch and the view of life. Standard methods and philosophies about “preserve” “revere” “peace”. The methods of focus on self-cultivation, have influence on Song dynasty painter’s attitude.Song dynasty painters through their pictures to convey this spirit of art to us, this is also should be passed down through the generations.
