Language is the most important communicative tool of mankind. For foreign students, proverbs and idioms can be a very good response to a nation’s history and culture, folk customs and geographical environment. Language is an important cultural carrier. Different nationalities have different history and culture, customs, ways of thinking, religious belief and value orientation. Language will directly reflect these differences.Different countries have different cultural backgrounds. Each language has its own proverbs different. People from differing cultural backgrounds were determined the specific meaning of the proverbs by their cultural backgrounds and life experiences. Every country has its own culture. A variety of people’s experience is a crystallization of people’s knowledge, reflecting a nation’s history and culture. Proverbs and idioms are the language of wisdom; they reflect the similarities and differences between different ethnic groups.This paper focuses on a comparative analysis of cultural differences between Thai proverbs (4 words) and Chinese idioms, as can be seen in Thai proverbs and Chinese idioms. Because of the differences of the two cultures, some of them are different and on the other hand, some of them are quite similar. This paper has analyzes 2 points of the culture in proverbs to understand two cultures of two countries. There are material culture, institutional culture and spiritual culture.
