On The Virtue Ethics And Its Contemporary Value

Virtue is the question that has been researched by people since the ancient times. In the history, many philosophers, ethicists have studied and discussed this issue. In the course of development of Western Philosophy, from the ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle to modern Karl Marx and to Macintyre, they all around the virtue theory expounded their views, and have a positive and significant impact on contemporary society.Aristotle was deeply influenced by Socrates’ view Virtue is the Knowledge and Plato’s view Four types of virtue. He thinks that virtue is a kind of character which makes people have good conduct and can embody the best aspect of human nature in the activity. Or to say, Virtue is a kind of quality that makes things has a good state and a good development process. Aristotle divided virtue into rational virtue and moral virtue, Through the use of the rational, love, mean and other various kinds of characters to achieve the ultimate happiness. Macintyre almost comprehensive acceptance for Aristotle’s virtue theory and carries on the inheritance and development, try to restore the theory of virtue in modern society in order to reconstruct the modern virtue ethics. Marx has formed his own theory system in the field of virtue ethics. In true humanity way of human existence and the combination of free people formed a clear social ethics viewpoint.Under the condition of Chinese contemporary commodity economy, Utilitarianism is becoming increasingly prominent. The return and reconstruction of virtue is particularly important. How to use Virtue ethics to rebuild the morality of China today is the focus of attention of people and government. To this issue, Aristotle and Macintyre’s theory of virtue can provide a useful reference from different aspects,but the practical nature of Marx’s theory of virtue so as to guide the practice of social life in our country as a whole,help to enhance their cultural literacy,break the social moral dilemma problem,in order to promoting the reconstruction of the Chinese traditional virtue.
