Su Qing, a writer who was as famous as Eileen Chang during the enemy-occupied time in Shanghai, inherited the "private novel" mode which Yu Dafu built. She used her self-experience as a blueprint to describe the female image in urban life, showing a distinct modern female consciousness. This paper tries to analyze the female writing in the novel from two aspects:the self speaking tendency and the secular value orientation. This paper consists of three parts:The first chapter, returning from social to individual. Heroines in her writing contain girls, women in love and marriage, divorced women, professional women and so on. She wrote in detail to describe the various stages of the women life course, thus showing a internalized personal saying tendency. These new educated women upheld the secular philosophy of life, used their love and marriage life as a response to the "What will Nora do after leaving" issues. They put themselves in marriage and family to raise the individual interpretation, expressing complaint to their "the other" living state in the patriarchal society, meanwhile, hoping to achieve the self value and to search for the modern maternal paradigm. The second chapter, the secular value orientation in daily life. Budding capitalist economy and the development of the modern city have digested the great issues about enlightenment and liberation, created the heroine who dare to present self desire and seek love in Su Qing’s works. Their consideration and identity to the worldly life met the practical and reasonable values in public sectors, thus becoming a typical representative of the modern women during the transition period. At the same time, they also made some influence on the image of the new realistic novels in the contemporary literature. However, the turbulent situation of enemy-occupied area and the suppression of traditional ethics made these women in a dilemma when they faced traditional orders. Returning home as a move which differ from the trend, has become a common choice for the balance between the ideal and the reality. Since these women hasn’t formed a truly independent personality yet, it is difficult to achieve true self-worth even when they entered the job market. The third chapter, shortcomings and limitations. Women in Su Qing’s writing were in a lack of the concern to the fate of the country, isolated themselves to the social background of the times. They upheld a egoism opinion, to focus sight on family-a narrow space. The sinking of the value concept and the ambiguity of the moral sense built a spiritual refuge. Therefore, comparing with mainstream literature at that time, these women can only stay in the modern women literature, cannot leave a meaningful and timeless image.
