| This is an English-Chinese translation report on the English version of Chinese Porcelain, written by O. du Sartel. This text introduces the development of Chinese porcelain during different periods in detail, presenting several history stories about porcelain. There is no Chinese version up to now, therefore, it’s the first time to translate Chinese Porcelain into Chinese.Many difficulties are approaching during the translation process of Chinese Porcelain, including a majority of terms on porcelain, many long and complex sentences, which undoubtedly prevents the understanding and translating of the original text. The author adopts some translation methods including the choice and determination of the meaning of a word, the conversion of part of speech method, the splitting method, the amplification method and the adding of annotation method to cope with some difficulties, and selects some specific examples to analyze the application of translation methods.Through the practice of translation of Chinese Porcelain, the author has drawn some conclusions:a translator not only needs to have a comprehensive and specialized knowledge of porcelain but also a good competence of the understanding of the original text and the management of the translated text, meanwhile, a translator should be capable of solving the difficulties in the application of translation techniques to reach the effect of faithfulness and smoothness of translation; moreover, a translator also needs to read parallel texts, and has the aid of translation tools and consults some specialists to ensure the accuracy of translation.The author believes that on one hand the Chinese version of Chinese Porcelain is available to offer some references for the practice of translation on porcelain between English and Chinese, on the other hand the author expects to view the development of Chinese porcelain from the perspective of foreign researchers so as to provide some referential materials for porcelain researchers in China. |
