This thesis is an English-Chinese translation report of chapter 6 and 7 of Climbing the Equator—dventures in the Jungles and Mountains of Ecuador written by British mountaineer Neville Shulman. Translation report helps readers know more about customs and basic situations of major cities of Ecuador and readers also can visit featured cultural sights of South America and religious buildings and appreciate different scenery following writer’s footsteps of achieving 5000-meter mountain summit and know some mountaineering terms at the same time. The author uses some translation methods in specific translation process on the basis of analyzing the background content, such as transliteration plus annotation, literal translation plus annotation, division, voice conversion and order adjustment, and give definite examples to explain. The author learns some lessons during the translating and writing, and realizes the importance of keeping track of background information, necessity of looking up a mass of data and choice of proper translation methods. The author also finds some translation questions. For example, translation quality should be improved, choices of words are not typical and ability of using translation methods is unskilled. For the author, all these are invaluable experiences from practice.
