The Relationship Among Emotional Maltreatment, Aggression, Resilience And Peer Relations Within 4-6 Grade Pupils

A cross-sectional investigation was conducted among 1,000 grades 4-6 primary students who were choosed from three primary school by random cluster sampling. The Chinese version of the scale of emotional maltreatment, the resilience scale for Chinese adolesent, Buss & Perry aggression Questionnaire, peer nomination questionnaire were used in the survey. The aim of this research is to get a picture of emotional maltreatment, aggression, resilence and peer relations, as well as explore the relationship among emotional maltreatment, aggression, resilence and peer relations.The analysis results are as follows:(1)The detection rate of emotional maltreatment among primary students was 34.31%, grade trends were not obvious; boys scored significantly higher than girls; the bad habits of parents were important factors affecting childhood emotional maltreatment; the pupil from urban school scored lower than students in rural primary school; the students from the family which total monthly income of 1,000 yuan to 3,000 yuan were more vulnerable to be emotional maltreated.(2)The students were in moderately aggressive level, and the fourth-grade students were in the lowest level of aggression, followed by the sixth-grade students, fifth-grade pupils were in highest level of aggressiveness; students who suffered childhood emotional maltreatment scored significantly higher than non-abused group on physical aggression, verbal aggression, anger, hostility and average aggression; and boys scored significantly higher than girls; the bad habits of parents were important factors affecting pupils aggression; aggressiveness level of rural primary school students was significantly higher than the urban, suburban.(3)The level of pupils ’resilience decreases with the increase of grades, the students who suffered emotional maltreatment were significantly lower than non-abused students; boys scored significantly lower than girls in interpersonal assistance, resilience average; rural pupils’ resilience level was relatively low; the level of resilience increases with household income increase; fourth grade pupils relatively high level of resilience.(4)The students who in non-abused group were scored significantly higher on social popular than students who were suffered emotional maltreatment. Social preferences of girls scored significantly higher than boys.(5)Emotional malteatment and aggression scores were positively correlated; emotional maltreatment, resilence and social popular were significantly negative correlation; resilience, aggressiveness and social preferences were significantly negative correlation; resilience and social preferences sharing a significant positive correlation with.(6)Resilience play a partially mediation between emotional maltreatment and aggression, peer relationship play a regulatory role between emotional maltreatment and resilience. Conclude:Emotional maltreatment is a widespread phenomenon among primary students. It can positive predict students’ aggression directily, and it also can make an indirectly influence on primary students’ aggression,as well as this indirectly influence is moderating by peer relations. Therefore, we can through resilience and peer relations to reduce emotional maltreament’ affect.
