The Documentary Investigation Of "Book Of Songs" Used In Music

Poetry, music were an important part of legal system of Zhou dynasty,at that age, poems and music were in close contact with each other.Although,in the process of historical development,poems and music divorced.poems existed but music did not.To the Song dynasty,there was a discussion about all poems could be used in music or not which was inconclusive for the next 400 years until to Mr Gu Jiegang,He thougt that all poems could be used in music but still somebody doubt it. So,the paperinvestigate the documentaryof "Book of songs" used in music and clear the chpters which were used in music,not only that,this paper also study the background 、 occasion 、 ways and means when those poems were used in music.expecting to provide some evidence to the discussion which all poems could used in music or not.According to the statistics,The Three Rituals had recorded 16 poems of Book Of Songs which belong to Guo Feng more than other chapter.Tso Chuan which recorded poems much more than other ancient Chinese texts had 60 poems.Mandarin had recorded 12 poems and so on.In a word,70 poems which were recorded in ancient Chinese texts were 24 percent of all poems in Book Of Songs.The ceremony with music in Zhou dynasty had a tough request for the occasions.There were more stringent requirements and regulations, and related to the music of the poem also has a strict occasion norms.According to the investigation,those poems used in music were happened in the situations about sacrifice、xiangyinjiu ceremony、xiangshe ceremony、dashe ceremony、yanxiang ceremony and chaopin ceremony.The occasion when psalms were played had something to do with the place, music venues, in usual,thoseoccasions was just in the ancestral temple, Yan Qin, University, primary school and so on.In my opinion,the statement that all all poems in “Book Of Songs”could be used in music still remained to be discussed,maybe some poems could be used in music and some poems couldn’t be used in music. First,misic and poems were two different system and both had some relation but we couldn’t state that all poems could be used in music.Second,according to the investigation,poems which were recorded in ancient Chinese texts were 24 percent of all poems in Book Of Songs but not 100%,so it wasn’t basis to support that all poems could be used in music.Third,the evidence that Gu Jiegang had proposed couldn’t afford to test.Fourth, the documentary which had recorded some poems used in music had also some questions.
