Program Music has developed continuously since it was born in the long history of music. In the development of western music, there are different stages in the forms of the program music. At the same time, the development of this kind of music style has caused the concerns in the field of history and aesthetics. Liszt, as an important composer in nineteenth Century, played an important role in promoting the program music on the process of western music. According to the program of the legend, poetry, painting and other culture to show the meaning of the title, which is a simple understanding of the program music.This paper takes Liszt’s program music as the starting point of view, defines the musical concept of the program music in the introduction to clarify the in-depth study of the Liszt’s program music. Chapter 1 of the text hackles the development venation of the program music, which relates to the growth trajectory of the program music, social and cultural environment in the romantic period and how Liszt understand and play the program music. All above paves the way for further explanation and analysis of Liszt music form in the history and development. Chapter 2 explores the categories of Liszt’s piano program music, and analyzes respectively the program of Liszt’s piano music works from the genres and contents. Chapter 3 shows the art features of Liszt’s piano program music from the aspects of the skills servicing emotions and programs concerting with themes. Chapter 4 summarizes the importance of Liszt’s piano program music. Through the depth explanation of the above chapters, we can see clearly the art characteristics and cultural connotation of the Liszt’s Piano Program Music.
