Excavated Porcelain Analysis Of The Song And Yuan Dynasties In Jiangsu Province

During Song and Yuan dynasties, the economy witnesses a rapid development in Jiangsu province, such as agriculture, handicraft industry and commercial trades.Porcelain is the most important material in this period, only by analyzing its production can we understand the economic development and multicultural transaction.The data is based on all the porcelain excavated in Jiangsu province during Song and Yuan dynasties. Using the typology theories, the thesis constructs the development of porcelain production in the time and space. Moreover, the thesis analyzes the kilns where the porcelain was produced. Finally, we do some research about the area where the porcelain spread. The thesis constitutes five chapters.The first chapter is archaeological discoveries and research situation. Inducing and summing up the relics with the porcelain in Jiangsu province, and introducing the finds and research situation.The second chapter analyzes the development of porcelain production with the method of typology. The porcelain production is discussed in different groups, according to their kilns and glaze, such as Jingdezhen kiln greenish-white glazed porcelain, egg white glazed porcelain, blue-and-white porcelain, Longquan kiln green glazed porcelain, Jizhou kiln black glazed porcelain, Jian kiln black glazed porcelain, Yue kiln green glazed porcelain, Linru kiln green glazed porcelain, Ding kiln white glazed porcelain, Cizhou kiln white glazed porcelain with black grain decoration. In each group, we analyze the shape, decoration and size of the porcelain.The third chapter is about chronology. We divides Song-Yuan dynasties porcelain into six period according to the porcelain with the accurate date in and beyond Jiangsu province. The first period is the early period of northern Song dynasty, the second period is the mid-late period of northern Song dynasty, the third period is the early period of southern Song dynasty, the four period is the late period of southern Song dynasty, the five period is the early period of Yuan dynasty, the six period is the late period of Yuan dynasty. Then,throughout each period unexcavated porcelain, investigates the flow cloth porcelain in the Song and Yuan Dynasties, Jiangsu Province,.The fourth Chapter is conclusion. Summing up the research results of this paper, and putting forward the problems and limitations.
