Abstract/Summary:
Researches show that cooperation is related with attachment and trust. Secure attachment individuals trust others more, and they can ignore the shortcomings of peers and accept him/her, at the same time researches reveal that early childhood attachment styles can predict the cooperative behavior of the youth. Cooperation not only includes cooperative behavior and willingness to cooperate, but also can be regarded as a stable personality tendency. Attachment is a kind of personality traits, and it also includes the short-term activation of the attachment system, that is, attachment priming. In this study, we use the public goods dilemma paradigm combining the emotional priming technology, which is used to prime the individual’s security attachment, and in public goods dilemma we provide two different kinds of feedback information(making profits /taking losses) to manipulate the trust of the subjects, making profits will help subjects build high-level trust, while taking losses can lower the trust of subjects. We aimed at studying the influence of attachment priming and experience-based trust on the cooperative behavior. The purpose of the study 1 is to explore the relationship between the adult attachment, trust and the cooperative personality tendency. We select 360 adult subjects, using the experiences in close relationship(ECR), the trust scale(TS) and the competitive and cooperative personality tendency scale, to investigate the mechanism among the three variables. By structural equation model testing, it is found that attachment avoidance has a negatively significant prediction effect on the cooperative personality tendency(β=-0.132, p<0.05), attachment avoidance has a negatively extreme significant prediction effect on trust(β=-0.280, p<0.01), attachment anxiety has a negatively extreme significant prediction effect on trust(β=-0.308, p<0.01), and trust has a positively extreme significant prediction effect on the cooperative personality tendency(β=0.362, p<0.01). Trust plays a partial mediating role between attachment avoidance and cooperative personality tendency(the effect value is-0.101). Trust has a complete mediation effect between attachment anxiety and cooperative personality tendency(the effect value is-0.111).All the fitting parameters of the model can meet the requirements and the fitting is pretty good. The purpose of the study 2 is to research the impact of security attachment priming and experience-based trust on cooperative behavior from the perspective of dynamic. This study consists of a pre-experiment and two formal experiments. The pre-experiment is used to determine the attachment / neutral priming materials. We select 34 psychology students as the subjects, and ask them to assess two kinds of pictures(security attachment pictures and neutral pictures) on a 7-point questionnaire. Independent sample T test results show that the two types of images on the relation of attachment theme are extremely significant(t=19.22, p<0.01), in the sense of perceived intimacy and warmth of the two types of images are extremely significant(t=31.10, p<0.01).Experiment 1 and experiment 2 are performed to study the effects of the security attachment priming and experience-based trust on the cooperative behavior from the perspective of dynamic behavior by supraliminal/ subliminal secure attachment priming. 31 and 32 college students were recruited to investigate the effect of supraliminal/ subliminal secure attachment priming and experience- based trust on the cooperative behavior in public goods dilemma, using a mixed design of 2(secure attachment priming vs. neutral priming) *2(high trust vs. low trust). The attachment priming was the within-subjects variables, and the trust was the between-subjects variable. The analysis of variances of repeated measurement is carried out, in which trust and attachment priming were independent variables, and initial cooperation was a covariate. The results of experiment 1 show that there is a significant difference of the cooperative behavior between the neutral priming and supraliminal secure attachment priming(F(1,28)=5.181. p<0.05), there is also a very significant difference between the two trust levels(F(1,28)=12.698, p<0.01), there is also a significant difference among the initial cooperation levels(F(1,28)=6.568, p<0.05), and the interaction between attachment priming and trust is not significantly different(F(1,28)=0.371, p>0.05).The results of experiment 2 show that the cooperative behavior between the neutral priming and subliminal secure attachment priming has a significant difference(F(1,29)=5.905, p<0.05), there is also a very significant difference between the two trust levels(F(1,29)=9.111, p<0.01), there is also an extremely significant difference among the initial cooperation levels(F(1,29)=35.326, p<0.01), and the interaction between attachment priming and trust is not significantly different(F(1,29)=0.838, p>0.05).The conclusions are as follows: 1. Attachment avoidance can directly affect the individual’s cooperative personality tendency, and it can influence the cooperative personality tendency through trust at the same time;2. Attachment anxiety can influence the cooperative personality tendency only through the mediating effect of trust; 3. Supraliminal/ Subliminal attachment priming significantly improves the cooperative behavior of individual in the public goods dilemma; 4. Individuals of high experience-based trust in the perform a higher level of cooperation in public goods dilemma; 5. Individuals of high initial cooperation intention performs more cooperative behavior in public goods dilemma.
