The Study Of Mufu In Sichuan Province And Its Poetry Of Xiaozong Period In The Southern Song Dynasty

In Southern Song dynasty, most regions were occupied by Jin people, so the King Song Xiaozong tried to wage northern expedition to recover the lost territory of central plains, therefore Sichuan became the gateway of confronting between Song and Jin dynasty when King Song Xiaozong was in office. Mufu, opening in Sichuan, all its situation, natures and specialties reflected the society status, in peace or in war, as well as its society tendency. Because of more scholars available in Mufu, so its poetry has a great impact and significance on frontier fortress poems and Sichuan literature. Taking Mufu system in Song dynasty as the background, and considering the specialties of Sichuan Mufu during period of Song Xiaozong’s office, Mufu of Yu Yunwen, Wang Yan and Fan Chengda which were most influenced and typical will be taken as objects of study. Deep analysis and further discussion on Sichuan Mufu and poetry in Xiaozong period will be performed in a way by combining history and theory.In Chapter One, the discussion of Yu Yunwen’s 3 times into Sichuan, test and research of staff, and Mufu specialties will be made. Yu Yunwen has been to Sichuan three times and established Mufu at Lizhou and Xingyuan so as to fight against threatening brought by Jin as well as to prepare for the northern expedition. During establishing period, Yu Yunwen attracted prominent talents, strengthened soldiers and forces and achieved good records. The well-known at that time were there Jian Jv, Wang Zhiqi, Li Liuqian, Zhao Xiong, Wang Zhi and so on. The entire Mufu was very harmonious. Military forces and literatures were both valued at that time which was the specialty shortened as accomplishment in both the pen and the sword.In Chapter Two, three aspects of Wang Yan Mufu will be discussed as followings:Wang Yan westward conquering, test and research of staff, and its specialties. Wang Yan was appointed as an assistant administrator and Sichuan Xuanfushi. But his office career declined in his late stage which was a tragedy. When he was in Sichuan as Xuanfushi, he started “Westward Conquering” at Xingyuan with readiness for military forces, food storage and troop training. His members could be found like Lu You, Zhang Yan, Zhou Jie, Yan Cangshu and Zhang Sen. Under the effects of Wang Yan General management and XiaoZong’s order of northern expedition, the entire Mufu Wang Yan was presenting phenomenon of “Attraction of talents and ready for fighting”.In Chapter Three, three aspects of Fan Chengda Mufu will also be discussed which are: Fan Chengda becoming as General in Chengdu, test and research of staff and its specialties. Fan Chengda was a famous poet and officer. During his office time as Sichuan Zhizhishi and Chengdu Zhifu, he established his office in Chengdu. He has made brilliant achievements back at that time which were of emphasis on talents, undivided consideration of his people and rectification of army and fortification. His members were like Lu You, Jian Shijie, Fan Mo, Yang Fu, Hu Jinchen and so on. The entire Mufu valued civil affairs under the target of “Soundness rooted in kind people” and were united and peaceful.In Chapter Four, with reference of Mufu in Tang dynasty, the relationship between the above mentioned Mufus and scholars will be discussed through 3 aspects which are: the reason for scholars participation, their lives in Mufu and Mufu ’s influences on scholars. The main reason for scholars to become a part of Mufu members are as followings: reputation of Mufu masters, official career development and selection, livelihood and target fulfillment. The complicated duty lives in Mufu and colourful spare time did have certain impacts on scholars attitudes in Mufu as well as their experiences poetry themes and styles after they left from it.In Chapter Five, poetry in Sichuan Mufu during period of King Xiaozong being in power will be discussed via two aspects of poetry overview, theme and contents. Compared with Mufu poetry in Tang dynasty, the development of frontier poetry in Xiaozong period could be witnessed as a turning point through its changes in themes. Poetry at that time has given an impetus to the development of Sichuan literature in Song dynasty from the analysis of its contents.In Chapter Six, Mufu unique art characteristics, regional character and the time features will be studied through analysis of art skills and art features.
