The eaves tile character of Han dynasty is a great work of art that consists of a collection of calligraphy, seal carving, painting, relief, and arts and crafts. In the Han dynasty, the eaves tile enjoys a rapid spread of popularity, as well as occupies a major position in terms of quantity. The tile not only enriches the tile art, but also opens up a whole new range of art and domain of research in this field. According to current situations of research, exploration and study on eaves tile character of the Han dynasty from the perspective of calligraphy has not received enough attention in the academic world, which is due to the lack of theoretical collation and summarization in regard with existing research results.This research paper mainly focuses on the four aspects of the eaves tile character of the Han dynasty on the basis of previous studies. To begin with, the first aspect explains the definition and classification of the tile and eaves tile character, with the aim to gain a holistic understanding of the Han eaves tile character. Then, the second aspect explores the Han eaves tile character from the calligraphy perspective, mainly from the viewpoint of ontology of calligraphy. That is, to systematically sort out and summarize the characters from macro to micro angles, and to gradually extract the aesthetic calligraphy connotations. The paper analyzes the art of calligraphic composition and the layout of reading order, meanwhile presents the text structure and categorization of the eaves tile character, all of which could demonstrate the aesthetic, calligraphic value of the character. And thus provides inspiration and reference for the mastery of highly innovative structure, and the utilization of more inspiring character formation in current course of the creation of calligraphy and seal cutting. The third aspect delves into the style and structure of the Han seal carving via the eaves seal. To use the seal character to explore the style of inscriptions and calligraphy in the Han dynasty, and finally summarizes the overall features of the characters in seal carving in order to profoundly recognize the importance of the seal carving of Han dynasty in the history of calligraphy. The fourth aspect focuses on the profound influence of eaves tile character on later seal carving creation,which symbolizes that the tile characters have become the major research source for seal carving artists.
