| The porcelain with black painting on white slip(PBPWS for short) whose appearance went beyond the tradition that porcelain were decorated with body and glaze, which opened a new era in the history of Chinese porcelain industry, is the most typical and characteristic product of Cizhou kiln. This dissertation chooses the PBPWS from the Song to Yuan dynasties of North China as research object, planning to discuss four relevant issues.First, this article matches the chronologies and dating of 10 kilns unearthed with PBPWS from the Song to Yuan dynasties of North China, dividing the history of PBPWS into three stages, which are late phase of the second period(AD 1101-1149), third period(AD 1150-1219) and fourth period(AD 1220-1368) of Cizhou kiln.Second, based on the chronological study above, we integrate the PBPWS of other kind of sites, re-dating the PBPWS as parts of them were dated wrong or vague, such as, some PBPWS of the Yuan dynasty were dated to Jin dynasty and some PBPWS of Ming dynasty were dated to Yuan dynasty.Third, based on the study above, this article systematically discusses the changes of four aspects, quantity, variety, decoration and distribution, of PBPWS during the Song to Yuan dynasties, re-evaluating the vicissitude of PBPWS of the Song to Yuan dynasties, which could be concluded as follows: 1) in the late Song dynasty to the beginning Jin dynasty, PBPWS were in their initial stage characterized by small amount, small area of distribution, less variety and simple decoration; 2) in the middle and late phase of Jin dynasty, PBPWS went into mature period with increase in quantity, expansion in distribution, prevalence of pillow, vase and bowl, and realism and being vivid in decoration; 3) in the terminal Jin dynasty to the beginning Yuan dynasty, PBPWS went into popularization and stereotype with extreme increase and expansion in number and distribution, prevalence of bowl, dish and pot, and brutalism and boldness in decoration.In the final part, we recognize the PBPWS of different kilns, including Guantai, Pengcheng, Bayi, Jiexiucheng, Gangwa, Podi, Yanchang, Leshanxiba, and some kilns in middle-western Inner-Mongolia, and their distribution areas of marketing. |
