With the evolution of globalization of economic and the acceleration of reform and opening up of China, more and more Chinese enterprises are participating in the international competition in politics, economics and culture. Under the terms of international conventions, bidding documents, contracts and communications between the contracting parties should be compiled in English unless otherwise permitted in which case an English version of the document must be enclosed. When divergence or dipute occurs, judgments will be made on the basis of the English version of the document. Therefore, a comprehensive understanding of the bidding documents is of essential importance. Thorough understanding and comprehension of the bidding documents and other relevant documents can help contractors to defeat other competitors and maximize their interests and profits。That is why we say the study of the rules of compiling English bidding documents and the strategies and techniques of translating them are important procedures in bidding. The original text is a bidding document of an engineering project. First of all, bidding documents are a type of law texts. They have the distinctive language features of law texts; secondly, the original is also related to engineering. There are many engineering and construction terminologies, which enhances the difficulty of translation. To take the above facts into consideration, I will elaborate my report on the study of the original text and its translation in following aspects.Chapter I is the detailed introduction of the task, including the introduction of the client, background of the task and the basic requirements of the task.Chapter II is the description of the whole practical process. I elaborated in this section in detail what I did in task preparation,in the actual translation process and in reviewing after translation.Chapter III is the core section of the dissertation. In this part are the lexical features and sentence features of the original text and their translation strategies, including the translation of archaic compound words, modal words, formal words, terminologies and big words in lexical features and the translation of narrative sentences, long and complex sentences, passive sentences and periodic sentences in sentence features. I also extracted some samples from the original text and gave their corresponding translation and put forward my analyzation and explanation.Chapter IV, which is the last chapter of the dissertation, is summarization. I made a conclusion of what I have learnt and accomplished in this translation practice. I hope the language pattern I find in bidding documents and the translation strategies discussed in this article can be of some help for myself and other translators in future translation practice of similar documents. That would be more than enough to make my study worthwhile.
