Tragic plots and tragic aria are necessary elements for promoting the development of plot.In hundreds of years,many opera writers are fond of writing tragedy.One of the most important reasons of it is the strong emotional appeal and stage effect.As for an opera singer,it is important to analyze the tragic aria in detail and explore its deep meanings.In such a way,singers can have a good knowledge of the background and plots of the aria,and have a better performance of the tragic aria on the stage based on the composer’s intention.The wonderful singing skills will be the starting point.This paper includes four parts.The introduction is a preliminary aummary and analysis of the study of tragic aria at home and abroad.In this way,Ican gain solid theoretical basis for my thesis which is based on the achievement of the foreign and Chinese scholars.The second part is a brief introduction of the aria.The song of Poplar and Willow and an exploration for the features of Verdi’s tragic opera.The third part focuseson the form of The song of Poplar and Willow and makes a comprehensive analysis from the aspects of musical form,melody,speed,intensity and so on.The last part,mainly lists the enlightenment of The song of Poplar and Willow and I interpret it from the control of sound,breath,movement and expression.
