A Study Of Ambivalence Attitude About Homosexuality Of College Students

Attitude research has always been an important topic in social psychology. Before 1990 s, most of the researchers used a single dimension to measure the attitude of the individual to one thing. However, with the development of the research, many studies have confirmed that the same thing may exist at the same time the two kinds of evaluation that is contradictory attitude. With the development and progress of our social, the special group of homosexuality gradually began to receive public attention. Therefore, this study is to study the structure of the contradiction between the university students’ attitude toward homosexuality.In this study, the author uses the Thompson’s ambivalence simple rating scale to divided ambivalence attitudes of college students toward homosexuality into high groups and low ones. Base on the analysis of the relevant terature.And, the author dose the research for college students who are different degrees of ambivalence attitudes on sensitivity and reaction in the positive and negative dimensions with the GO/NOGO paradigm. After performing groups, we found that the Mongolian subjects were mostly low- ambivalence, so the author tried to further research on the attitudes toward homosexuality between Mongolian and Han.Firstly, high ambivalence attitudes of students toward homosexuality have equal intensity between the positive link and negative one, and the presence of ambivalence. while the low ambivalence ones show different intensity in the positive and negative links.Secondly, the different reactions between high ambivalence groud and low ambivalence groud are reflected in the negative dimension, which shows that the attitude of low ambivalence ones indicating toward homosexuality still have a implicit negative tendency.Thirdly, the contradictory attitudes will affect information processing. In the group of individuals at high contradictory attitudes about homosexuality react slower than low self contradictory.Fourthly, in the treatment of the issue of homosexuality, the Mongolian subjects compared to the Han Chinese subjects more negative attitude.
