The Characters’ Language Feature Of ’Nikita’ From Language Gender Differences

Gender difference which reflects on many aspects is a basic distinction of human society, and language is a major aspect among these differences. Based on analysis of data’s language gender differences, the author finds out that male and female language is changed with diverse outer context, and this thesis is trying to make clear main reasons, of this phenomenon. If people couldn’t realize language gender differences and reasons of these differences, the daily communication could lead to misunderstandings even conflicts, therefore this thesis aims to help people who could have more choices of utterance skills to obtain effective communication. Finally, people could meet their various needs.The data of this thesis collect from three men(Michael, Percy, Birkhoff) and three women(Nikita, Alex, Amanda) who are main characters of American drama ’Nikita’, because the same number of the men and women could make the analysis procedure of language gender differences more objective. There are totally 174 data and 99 data have been used in thesis. In oder to compare men and women’s language differences better, the author analyse data by Language Gender Differences Theory and Conversation Analysis Theory, then the author expounds the differences from the following six factors including intonation(18), pronunciation(6), vocabulary(21), grammar(16), syntax(22) and speech styles(16).At last, analysis shows that five reasons lead to language gender differences by using Qualitative Analysis Method. One is physiological factors’ difference which is instinctive. The second one is psychological factors. Men are good at logical memory, but women specialize in imaginal memory. The third one is social rights and status. In patriarchal society, there are many differences in language inevitably. The forth one is language environments. Men and women grow up in different language enviroment, so that they are talking in different ways. The last one is traditional culture. Social status of men is higher than women in traditional culture which is also the reason of differences. The study of the former five reasons is expected to help people understanding language gender differences further.
