Business Coaching occurred in the 1980 s. It came into China in the 1990 s and it has developed very rapidly since then. There are more and more business managers hoping that they can master the skills of coaching through the standardized professional learning and become a business coach. But in recent years, there are few academic research on the business coach competency model. With the rapid development of business coaching in China and the continuous increasing of business coaches, it has become an urgent problem for enterprises to improve the competency of their coaches.The study is expanded from the academic research of the theory of business coaching, taking the reality as the starting point, the forming of a business coach competency model as the mainline and the questionnaires surveys as the research method. I built a business coach competency model and it will enrich the theories in relevant researches. Firstly, make literature analysis of those studies about business coaching and competency and skills of business coaches. After that, make a summarize of the capacity and quality that they must have. Secondly, basing on the summarized capacity and quality that they must have, make a behavioral event interview of the qualified business coach. After that, make a set of questionnaire on the competency of business coaches and verify the reliability of the questionnaire. Thirdly, make a questionnaires survey and collect the statistics about business coaching. Lastly,analysis the statistics that I have collected, and build a business coach competency model. The main conclusions of this study were listed as follows:1 、Built a business coach competency model. The writer has investigated and studied the typical events that happened during business coaches’ working and the qualities that they must have, finally built a business coach competency model and tested it in varies ways. The business coach competency standards contains seven aspects like coaching skills, personality traits, professionalism, expertise, basic literacy,achievement-oriented, management capability, and there are 26 detailed aspects of them.2、Made a "business coach competency questionnaire". There are 26 questions in this questionnaire, using a five-point Likert scale meter divided by 1-5 representatives,which contains "very unimportant", "relatively unimportant", "General important", "important", "very important". I investigated 160 business coaches and analyzed the data that were collected with SPSS20.0. Based on the interpretation of the results, it shows that the Cronbach alpha coefficient of the questionnaire is 0.899, thus verified that the questionnaire has a favorable internal consistency.
