With the development of the cause of teaching Chinese as a foreign language,country-specific textbooks and the related research also emerge as the times require. To strengthen its ties with Asian countries, Australia has implemented a series of the important measures to develop Chinese. Heritage Chinese, launched by New South Wales, is one of the most popular ones. It is a Chinese course specifically for the Chinese high school students.In this paper, the research is based on the Heritage Chinese syllabus. The topic teaching word list is established through referring to its requirements of the teaching philosophy, teaching goal, ability, agenda setting and evaluation form etc. There are several specific steps for the word list development. To establish a topic library based on the five issues of the syllabus by referring to domestic and foreign intermediate Chinese textbooks and online media articles; To form a preliminary teaching word list through gathering the common words of textbooks and media corpus and using words clustering tools to search relative topic words online; To establish the final Heritage Chinese teaching word list by contrasting the high frequency words on the media,supplementing core word list, screening the outline words and adding Australian words; To model the word list and to do a statistical analysis of the words collection of each model. The model will be divided into four parts, the key words, special words for the topic, Australian words and the popular words; To rank the word list into five levels, including A, B, C, D and the outline words and to explain the words of each level.The word list is developed in the concept of the diversity and the dynamic update of the country-specific teaching words in this paper, with the aim to promote the development of the Chinese teaching in Australia, to serve for the compilation and teaching of the Heritage Chinese and to make some attempts on the research of the country-specific word list.
