As a musical style opera epitomizes various kinds of artistic expressions including drama, poetry, dance, instrumental and vocal music etc. As its scenarios involve, figures of flesh and blood are built up and connotation is conveyed. Among the domestic work of dramas, Struggles in an Ancient City is undoubtedly a work of success as it has not only widened the research scope of Chinese national operas but also pioneered in the singing of contemporary national operas. At the threshold of the 21 st century, we can build on what Chinese national operas have gone through over the past one century in a bid to usher in a new era of the development of modern Chinese national operas.Through a detailed analysis of three main arias of the national opera Struggles in an Ancient City, this paper aria to discover its creative assets, including the emotional treatment of each aria and technical analysis. And my personal opinion is also included. Starting from singing features including characters’ emotions, singing style and technical processing, there paper elaborates on the background in which characters are living and their innermost feelings as well as analysis of rhythm and respiration treatment, designating to provide a literature reference for singers in this regard going forward.
