A Study Of Redundancies In The Translation Of The Chinese Buddhist Tourism Texts

With the thriving of Chinese tourist industry, the translation of tourism texts has played a more and more important role. And Buddhist tourism has gradually formed into an important attraction in China. In order to express the tourism texts more accurate according to different language systems, balancing the redundancies is a must for the Chinese-to-English translation, for redundant information plays an important role as modifier and explanation in the translating part. Therefore, how to balance the redundancies in target texts is the main part of the thesis.With the introductions of some Buddhist sceneries of Buddhist Fairyland: Insights into Chinese Buddhist Sceneries as the translation materials, the thesis is devoted to discuss how to weaken, simplify and blur the redundant descriptions and comments and how to meet the requirements of target language instructed by the theory of Information. Therefore, some translation methods of redundancies can be concluded to achieve the effective transmission of Chinese and English.The thesis based on translational practice will solve the following two difficulties: a) find out the features of the redundancies in the original texts; b) figure out the translation methods according to the features.Based on the former studies, the thesis with the features of the original sources of some Buddhist tourism texts draws some translation methods such as literal translation with notes, rewriting, amplification and transliteration with interpretation for the explanatory redundancies. It is hoped that the version of target language will be accurate, brief and clear in the premise of the original information.
