The source text of this translation practice report comes from the dissertation: Teacher Retention in a Rural School District by Daphne R. Keiser, a Doctor of Philosophy graduating from the Faculty of the Curry School of Education University of Virginia in 2011. This dissertation falls into six chapters and the author focuses on Chapter four, the full text of which is about 10,000 words for English-Chinese translation practice under the guidance of my supervisor.Teacher Retention in a Rural School District explores turnover of teachers in rural school district of United States and offers recommendations and strategies for improving teacher retention in rural school district. Chapter Four is quantitative analysis and results, in which the author quantitates the collected data and offers suggestions regarding economic, geographic, social and administrative support. Starting form the functional equivalence theory, this report intends to make a preliminary study of the translation of Teacher Retention in a Rural School District(chapter four).The dissertation belongs to informative-type text, which is plain in language, objective in content and rather professional.This report describes the process of this translation practice: includes the pretranslation preparation, translation procedure and translation revision, which record the problem the author came across during each period and the dealing strategies. A lot of translation examples were quoted to analyze the use of the translation methods, which includes literal translation, conversion, addition, omission, division and combination and so on, under the guidance of the functional equivalence theory at lexical and syntactic levels in Chapter Four.
