Recently, the new“bei”construction prevails in network and newspaper.Since the popularity of“bei zisha”,the new construction such as“bei jiuye(被就业)”“bei ziyuan(被自愿)”“bei xiaokang(小康)”“bei 67%(被67%)”are widely accepted and used by netizens. In the Blue thesis issued by Chinese Academy of Social Sciences,“bei zisha(被自杀)”was ranked as the second place of the popularity of the network vogue expressions in the year of 2008.At the same time, the new“bei”construction was voted by netizens as the top character of Mandarin Chinese in the year of 2009 and chosen as the first place in“Chinese Characters Survey in 2009”hosted by The Research Center of National Language Resources Monitoring and Commercial Printing House. At the same time, the vogue expressions aroused a large number of experts’ attention. They began to have some researches from different perspectives to this new construction.Generally speaking, the experts analyze “bei” construction from the rhetoric, generative, comparison, syntactic, semantic and pragmatic angles. In the research, the cognitive and pragmatic characteristics of the new “bei” construction will be analyzed from the established PCP model to solve the previous gap. In this thesis, the thesis collects 200 samples of the new “bei” construction. Of which, there are 24 samples for transitive verb function, 66 for intransitive verb function, 70 for nominal function, 32 for adjective function and 8 for other functions. In these samples, the most quintessential ones are analyzed by the thesis. This research makes a contribution to the cognitive and pragmatic mechanism of the new “bei” construction so that it can be used correctly to express the communication purpose. This research also devotes to the Chinese teaching and the development of Chinese social language.Though analysis, in the new “bei” construction, V’P do not possess all the thematic roles and their semantics are incompatible, mismatch or in conflict with their uses. So, there come a phenomenon that the argument structure of V’P mismatch the argument structure of“bei” construction. Thinking about flexibility, “bei” construction plays a leading role and it forces some extra roles on V’P to change their types and meanings. Therefore, the new“bei” construction still belongs to the category of “bei” construction which is different from the traditional one. It possesses some distinct features because the V’Ps following“bei” character do not have all the thematic roles and they are coerced by “bei”construction to change their meanings and uses. Owing to this novelty in cognitive perspective, the new “bei” construction also plays some new pragmatic effectiveness. They are able to express the helpless, unfortunate, ridiculousness, and irony effects which V’P and the traditional “bei” construction cannot. To some degree, they obey the Politeness Principle in pragmatics.Compared with those transient vogue expressions, the cognitive and pragmatic characteristics of the new “bei” construction strengthen the depth, extension and disinterestedness of Chinese language. It open a window for the analysis of construction.Meanwhile, PCP model complements the previous studies gap that the new “bei”construction can not be interpreted in one orientation fully. It analyzes the new “bei”construction through the integration of cognitive and pragmatic perspectives.
