Semi-epilepsy persons are one sort of the most distinctive characters in Jia Pingwa’s works. Those semi-epilepsy persons are both the inheritance of the epileptic narrating for the past literature history and the new development of Jia Pingwa under the current social influence. As a group of fake epilepsy with mad appearance, they were staying ambiguously and wandering between epilepsy and non-epilepsy. Such characters have almost run through Jia Pingwa’s all works in the 1990s. Based on the systematic investigation of semi-epilepsy persons, we discuss the definition of semi-epilepsy, the "semi-epilepsy" perspective of Jia Pingwa and the relation and distinction of his "semi-epilepsy"perspective with previous ones. Through the analysis of multiple skills that Jia Pingwa used to shape semi-epilepsy characters, we explore Jia Pingwa, as a contemporary Chinese intellectual, his observation and reflection hidden under the characters on the issues of country, nation and society. Through this perspective, we study how these contemporary Chinese intellectuals resist in a difficult realistic predicament, how they relieve their intellectual spirit and how they realize their political ideals when facing an important transitional period of the country.
