| According to the relevant research, the reason for the inefficiency and low satisfaction of college English teaching(CET) is that the content of the C ET is divorced from students ’ majors, which results in the phenomenon of “two pieces of skin†between English teaching and professional teaching. Thus, the CET should orientate to professional English or EAP, and the teaching model of CET should be more efficient and more in conformity with modern teaching philosophy.Based on the review of the concepts and features of CET models, CBI and adjunct C BI, this paper constructs a model of “input major courses + output English courses †on the basis of Adjunct CBI, in which the language input skills of “listening†and “reading†are embedded in major courses, whereas the language output skills of “speaking†and “writing†in English courses.In order to test the validity and efficiency of the model, the paper selects NUPT?NYIT(a joint venture program) to perform a case study by adopting questionnaire and pre-and-post tests to know the attitude of the students toward the model as well as the difference of English proficiency between experimental group and control group. According to the data statistics from EXCEL and SPSS 19.0,(1)92.3% of the students express that their English comprehensive ability and four language skills(listening, reading, speaking, writing) improved; and those who agree to the necessity of teaching major courses through English and those who are satisfied with the model account for 88.5% and 78.8% respectively;(2) Based on similar pre test level, the post test average scores of experimental group are better than those of the control group, and the English scores between the two groups reflect statistically significant difference.Therefore, the research result of this paper reveals that adjunct CBI teaching model can not only effectively improve college students’ English comprehensive ability and language skill, but also enable English learning to meet students’ professional needs. Considering the lack of adjunct C BI model research in China, the fundamental study and empirical study in this paper might offer a new path for the research of college English teaching model in the future. |
