| Humor is an indispensible ingredient in our life. The most precious feature of sketches is its punch lines and the vividness in language use. It brings us joy, creates harmonious atmosphere, and it even has educational and thought-provoking significance. Therefore, in CCTV Spring Festival Gala, the comic sketch has become the most expected and the favorite language program for majority of audiences. The development of sketches provides us a plenty of materials for verbal humor studies. The previous studies reveal the process, mechanism or disciplines of humor generation from different theoretical frameworks. However, only one theory can hardly show the whole picture of humor generation process. It is also the deficiency of existing literature. The present thesis comprehensively studies humor generation from the perspectives of cognitive linguistics and pragmatics, using Conceptual Integration Theory and Linguistic Adaptation Theory as the theoretical framework, in way of illustration, figures and comparison to analyze the texts of classic comic sketches in the CCTV Spring Festival Gala. Research results show that 1) as soon as we have received the language information, the concept packet is motivated and the cross-space mapping is set up to construct on-line meaning which clashes with our background knowledge, immediate context or to integrate information from different cognitive domains to generate implicit. 2) The clashes and the integrated information can be comprehended by audiences, and then they burst into laughter. This can be explained by resorting to linguistic adaptations. Humor effects are generated through linguistic adaptability to three worlds(physical world, social world and mental world). Also the structural adaptability has influence on humor generation. 3) Besides, through comparison between the two theories, we find some interconnections and similarities, regarding context basis, variability and creativity of language. Therefore, the thesis reaches the conclusion at humor effects are generated from the dynamic cooperation among cognition, context and language. It is really a good approach to detect humor generation by these two theories. |
