With the development of science and economy, in order to meet the need for the graduates with comprehensive ability in using English of society, Ministry of Education raised requirements for reforms in college English teaching, calling for the establishment of teaching models based on the Internet. Meanwhile, how to relieve effectively the difficult situation arising with the implementation of the college expansion policy is also a concern for college English teachers. Under such background, on the basis of the research on the current classroom teaching models, the author tries to make an optimization with the help of the Internet.Based on the theories of constructivism and Krashen’s second language acquisition, the research on current classroom teaching models focus on the following three questions:1. What kind of models is in college-English teaching classroom at CIT now?2. Are the current teaching models in college English classroom helpful inencouraging and promoting students’ autonomous learning?3. Whether the current teaching models are helpful for teachers or students achieve their goals? The exploration of the current classroom model of college English teaching is limited in Changzhou Institute of Technology (CIT). The research method adopted for the study is naturalistic inquiry. The findings show that the current classroom teaching models at CIT can be described as a lecture and exercise model, that it can not effectively stimulate students’ subjective consciousness and the teaching or learning goal can not achieved successfully. Therefore, an optimized English classroom teaching model, the Internet autonomous learning and classroom evaluation model, is proposed, namely students are guided to learn beyond classroom with the help of the computer technology and the rich resource of the Internet and the performance will be evaluated in the classroom. The innovations are that computer technology and network resources are used to serve classroom teaching, and that the teaching goal of improving students’ comprehensive ability is achieved through teachers’ guidance and students’ autonomous learning. The guiding role of teachers in teaching and the subjective consciousness of students in learning are to be strengthened. The model is both a teaching model and a learning model, so the lack of teaching time and teaching resources could be solved to some extend. The analysis of maneuverability, characteristics and possible obstacles of the model and the limitation of the article also are presented in the article. In the end, the author points out the limitations of the research and gives some suggestions for future study.
