With the introduction of western culture, western painting has had a huge impact and influence on the China traditional painting since 20th century. Senior painters have made a transformation and a reconstruction of traditional Chinese brush portraits painting by means of the study of western painting language. And that has not only changed the declining situation of Chinese brush portraits painting but contributed to the rise of it. Nevertheless, it is accompanied by the conflict in western aesthetics and painting language and a prolonged argument of some questions such as brushwork and sculpts. Ultimately, as a result, there comes the diversified development of Chinese brush portraits painting. In addition, western painting language plays an important and inevitable part in the research and creation of realistic Chinese portraits painting. This paper expounds how to absorb the western painting language in the creation of Chinese realistic painting through the study of arts’ history and the author’s works from the perspective of painting creation. Moreover, how the combination of the western painting language and the interest and charm of Chinese painting develops has been expatiated in the paper as well. More important, the paper has certain enlightenment function to the Chinese realistic ink and wash portraits painting.
