From ancient times,colors have a variety of contacts with our daily life in conscious or unconscious way.And our understanding of colors become different within these frequently contacts.According to their living environment and corresponding economic production,different peoples give different meanings to white color, forming their ethnic color awareness.This paper focus on a basic color “white”, which occupies an important position in East Asia.First of all,every country and their initial awareness to “white” are investigated.It is generally considered that “white” originated from the white sunshine,naturally its initial meaning is given.Secondly,different symbolism of “white” in East Asia is discussed. We stress on the nomadic people’s migration route and shamanism, trying to figure out the white color meanings hiding behind East Asia peoples.At last,by comparing the interconnect and different awareness of white color in East Asia,we concluded that the differences come from their geographical environment and religion.The research in white awareness aims to improve the communication between different cultures in East Asia.Besides,it is expected to provide some valuable references in political and cultural areas to strengthen mutual understanding between East Asia peoples.
