The paper is trying to discuss the historial status and influence of a group of western artists in the Chinese New Art Movement, who studied art in France and then taught art in the Shanghai Art College. At that time the western art was spreading to the east fast. The writer wants to study how the group of western artists combined the native culture with the western culture during the unprecedented collision and blending of Chinese and Western art. They set up art college, organized painting groups, published art journals and held a large quantity of art exhibitions, which were based on their opinions of modern paintings accepted in France and the practice of western art at home. They promoted the development of western art in China and played an important role in the history of modern art in China. The writer hopes to bring the almost forgotten history back. The development of Modern Chinese Art in the new century can learn something from it.
