The Translation Method Of Onomatopoeia

Onomatopoeia are widely used in both every day’s conversation and written Japanese. So, It is particularly important for us to study the translation of Japanese onomatopoeia. In this article we will discuss how to translate the onomatopoeia in the actual process of translation, this will be the objectives of this study.Kenji Miyazawa’s work is liked by people all over the world. in China, The novel "Night on the Galactic Railroad" is a representative work of Miyazawa. Much amount of onomatopoeia were used in his novel.He made his work more vivid,and make us more convenient to study the onomatopoeia.After reading a lot of domestic and foreign literature, I selected Mr. Kenji Miyazawa’s "Night on the Galactic Railroad" as the object of study. First I selected the sentences with onomatopoeia and onomatopoeia, and then found out the translation of these sentences to make comparative analysis.Then I summed up translation methods of onomatopoeia. I selected two versions of translation, one was translated by Kappa and the other one was translated by Zhou Longmei. Kappa’s version is an earlier translated version, and Miss Zhou is well known by people because of translating lots of works of Miyazawa.A comparative analysis of the two versions also appeared in the paper.The article is divided into four parts, the first part describes the object and purpose of the study, the initial literature research, and research methods. The second and third parts are the central parts of this paper, a detailed description of the onomatopoeia translation methods. In the conclusion section describes the method of research, the shortcomings, and future research on onomatopoeia words.The results of this study can be summed like this.When we translate the Japanese onomatopoeia which describe the sound we can translate them into the sound of words in Chinese, adverbs, we can also omit the part of the word’s translation, as well as the methods of adjectives and verbs. When it comes to the onomatopoeia which describe the situation, these words can be translated into an adjective, adverb, verb, and so on.
