During the 1850s, American government began to establish Indian reservation system. This system had a great influence on the United States in 19th century. As a nationwide implemented system, reservation system’s role in American could not simply say good or bad. So we need a clear understanding and judgment of reservation system.How reservation system was established. How reservation system was developed and improved. How reservation system played a role in the United States in the 19th century. What reservation system had an effect on the Indians who were living in the United States. All these questions needed to be carefully studied.This paper has five chapters. The first chapter mainly discussed the established process of Indian reservation system, the causes of Indian reservation system and the process of this system’s development and improvement during the middle and late 19th century. The second chapter mainly discussed Indian reservation system’s role in the development of American industry during the 19th century. The third chapter discussed Indian reservation system’s role in the development of American agriculture. The forth chapter introduced reservation system’s role in American society. This chapter mainly analyzed reservation system’s role in the formation of the "American spirit", deepening the understanding of the Indians and accelerating the process of American society accept the Indians. The fifth chapter analyzed the reservation system’s influence on the Indians in America.In the end, the conclusion of this paper summaries its whole contents, and further deepening the understanding of the reservation system which was implemented by the American government in 19th century.
