The Blueprint of “The Classic book of Mountains and Rivers” is generated in the pre-Qin period and formed little by little on the basis of the relevant materials handed down from ancient society, but its final version may be coined in the Western Han Dynasty. It more truly reflects people’s perception and the original thinking towards living space and the outside world in ancient times. Attributed to the certain reliability of its mountain ranges and river distribution, it functioned as geographical chorography in an era which is underdeveloped in geography. At the early period of Han Dynasty, decades of rehabilitate gave birth to the prosperity of society, on the basis of which Emperor Wudi in Han Dynasty resisted foreign aggression from barbarians, exploited the boundary and promoted the integration and development of unification culture. The imperial desire of expanding territory as well as people’s curiosity and imagination to the outside world increased the demand of geographical knowledge, which is the vital reason that “The Classic book of Mountains and Rivers”was able to spread in Han Dynasty. However, in order to compose grand articles on home woven to eulogize achievements, one must read thousands of books to improve cultivation and “The Classic book of Mountains and Rivers” is one of them. “The Classic book of Mountains and Rivers”, moreover, elucidates mountains and rivers,and favourable geographical positions with mysterious language, equipping it with the religious functions of condensing citizens and consolidating regime. Furthermore, its witchcraft properties bear the functions of educating people and consolidating regime in ancient times, which is similar with Han Fu, eulogizing rural festivals and praising “Gods” superficially, actually promoting deities and political features of a unified empire. This paper probes the internal reasons of the spreading of “The Classic book of Mountains and Rivers” under the background of the grand unification political thoughts of Han and explores its impacts on the geographical and spatial thoughts, humanistic feelings and other aspects of Han Fu.
