George Whitefield,a pastor in England across the sea to the North American colonies.He preaches,raises funds,creates orphanage,these events contributed to the upsurge of religious fervor throughout the colonies.History records these series of events as "Great Awakening."The Great Awakening lie between the colonies period and the American Revolution,that is the first mass movement which has profound impact on American history.There is historian believes that the Great Awakening inspired the American nation for equality,liberty and the pursuit of independence.spired the American nation for equality,liberty and the pursuit of independence.Which parallel with the Enlightenment.As the leader of the movement,Whitefield’s influence in American is evident that without mention of his name would be dangerous to praise.In this paper,I would take the first Great Awakening in North America as the background,and mainly study the colonial newspapers reported incidents of religious revival,referring to the movement of the main leaders of diaries,letters.And I survey of the First Great Awakening movement between newspapers and religious leaders interaction.This paper first describes Whitefield take "preach-news" policy advocacy religious revival movement,and analysis how Whitefield idolized in this tide of religious fervor masses.Secondly,the analysis Whitefield how shattered idol image in the newspaper controversy.Finally,the interpretation of Whitefield won its reconstruction after the new image.Whitefield become the first "Anglo-American" celebrity in modern times.
