Internet words is the new type of word which appeared by the popularization and widespread use of the Internet. Network language integrates into our daily life and becomes accepted by people. Internet words are not only a linguistic phenomenon, but also a social phenomenon. It reflects society, culture, human’s mental state and changes. The spreading and developing of words is relied on the process of accidental creation, formation and popularity, self-eliminated, gradually being recognized, and then being absorbed by the standard system of Chinese. Internet words enrich the modern Chinese vocabulary, and promote the diversity communication of people. On the other hand, it has a positive impact on standardization and perfection of Chinese system, but it also increases the difficulty of teaching Chinese as a foreign language.For the foreign students who study at China, because there are a lot of words come from the Internet which cannot learn it from the traditional Chinese dictionary, they will not understand them while they are doing some research online or chatting with other Chinese students. Foreigners always are confused about some words. And then frustrate their passion of learning Chinese. Knowing Internet words will expand their vocabulary, increase reading ability, and improve every part of their Chinese skills. That will also help them to know more about China, and then being more adaptive in this environment. It is beneficial for their study and life. Appearing of internet words have become an unavoidable reality in Chinese learning, and it also becomes an import part in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.The research method of this paper is theory research and summarize. The main object of this research is Internet words and teaching Chinese as foreign language. It discusses Network words’ definitions, causes and characters based on previous results. This article proposes the necessity of learning Internet words and carries out some teaching methods. In addition, internet words have been divided into different types from different of angle, then proposed by different categories according its types:homophonic, abbreviate, pictograms, and so on. After that, people will create different ways to teach the Internet words, such as explained description method, intuitive demonstrates method, logic summary method, and group learning method. The paper based on students’ learning and living needs to discuss how to teach Network words to foreign students. Finally, this paper is helpful for the research of Internet words and teaching Chinese as foreign language.This paper is divided into four parts to explore the different sides of teaching Internet words. The first part is the introduction which about the meaning of this topic, research status, research questions and methods of thinking. The second part discusses the reasons for internet words show up, the developing path way, and the Internet words’ character. The third part analyzes the necessity of learning internet words. We should start from the prominent problems existing in teaching Internet words; explore teaching principles, and make different teaching methods according to the classification of internet words. Finally concludes the paper, pointing out the limitations and suggestions for further research.
