Abstract/Summary:
Geometry, as a means of expression of the form of painting language with a long history of evolution and development, enjoys characteristics of planarity, regularity, simplicity, decorative and abstract on visual experience. At the same time the visual aesthetic tendency of contemporary art emphasizes in a simple form of language to intuitively and vividly demonstrate the rich nature of the object and feelings. What is commonly seen is to express one’s emotional experience and to attract the viewer’s visual attention through a high degree of generalization and abstraction refinement of a partial image, as well as the overall structure and effect of the painting. In addition, the unique and easy-to-recognize characteristics of geometry in visual image also encourage the communication and interaction with the viewers via geometry semantics. As such, the characteristics of geometry are regarded as a supplement to the expression of, and satisfaction of the requirements towards, the form of language used to express contemporary aesthetic meanings.The Chinese landscape painting with its own regional and traditional cultural characteristics did not require very prominently on the use of geometry as its form of language during its long history of development. Thus, in the contemporary process of the Chinese landscape painting, the analysis and research of the geometry is likely to become and represent the development features of the form of language adopted by the Chinese landscape painting. The use of geometry in the practice of the contemporary landscape painting represents a possibility in finding the perfect form of language as well as a practical path to a trial of diversity means of expression. Meanwhile, the Chinese landscape painting has been emphasizing on and therefore enjoys characteristics of “stability”, “momentum”, “concision” and “artistic conception”, as a result of which it shows a subjective initiative in emotion expression through its own form of language. Geometry, as the means of expression of another form of language, has a natural meeting point and relevance to the features of the Chinese landscape painting’s form of language.Through comparing of geometry’s own characteristics and the contemporary aesthetic, as well as analyzing and comparing of the requirements of the Chinese landscape painting towards its form of language. Within the scope of the Chinese landscape painting’s form of language, the use of geometry as a means of creation is a means for reference and absorption, as well as a practical path to promote the contemporary process of the Chinese landscape painting.
