The Study On The Language And Culture In Anyang Street Names

Street name of a city can reflect a city’s politics, economy, culture, customs, etc. That is to say, the street name is a mirror of the city, recording and witnessing the city’s natural environment, celebrity anecdotes, history and customs. Anyang, as a city with rich historical culture, has street names worthy researching and analyzing, and by doing this, we can explore the relationship between language and society, and culture.This paper analyzed street names collected the Anyang city from language and cultural aspects, and further investigated from diachronic and synchronic angle.The paper is consisted of five chapters.The introduction mainly introduces the human geography and history of the city, discussing the current research of street names, the significance of the research and research method in this paper.The second chapter analyzes the characteristics of Anyang city street names. Many of the Anyang streets are named as "fu(mansion), xiang(lane), hutong(alley), dao(road),madao(road), lu(road), jie(street), dajie(street), dadao(avenue)". One of the most special one is the "fu", which is caused by the missing of the second part of the orginal name.The third chapter explains the the the rich history and culture connotation reflected by Anyang street names through a large number of corpus and relevant theories of cultural linguistics. Thus we can have more in-depth understanding of Anyang, as well as the relation between street names and the environment.From four aspects, the fourth chapter analyzes the change of Anyang city street names: inherited street name, the increase of new names, the disappearance of the names, and the change of names.The fifth chapter analyzes the current situation of Anyang city street names, and two pieces of constructive suggestions are put forward.
